IN MEMORIAM
It is with great sadness that the El Paso Art Association would like to remember four talented artists and friends that have recently passed away. We are glad to have known them over the years through their friendship but also through the artwork they created, each leaving behind memories and a legacy on paper and canvas. They will be missed.
The great Bassel Wolfe! A true gentleman who was always easy to talk to about art and a delight to be around. Bassel’s work was magical, from cute as a button donkeys, to magnificent landscapes, to spectacular figurative work. Bassel had the golden touch in both art and heart.
The lovely Holly Thurston Cox! Holly will be remembered by many as a lovely, soft spoken woman whom created colorful abstracts, bursting with life. Holly and her creative family have left a legacy in the history books of El Paso artists. As a past El Paso Art Association President, Holly gave so much of her time and talent to promoting the greatness of art.
The feisty Beverly Messer! It was always great running into Beverly at an art opening either at the Crossland Gallery or the International Museum of Art and chatting for a time. Beverly’s watercolors were always impressive and liked by many, her florals were divine. She will be missed by many of her water-colorist friends.
A Wonderful artists, Richard Parra!
It was such a thrill to have Richard Parra grace the walls of the Crossland Gallery with his amazing paintings in the winter of 2016. Extraordinary art from an extraordinary person. We knew it was a special night when Richard and his lovely wife Alice attended the opening reception. Chatting with him about his art, one could see insights into his genius. We look back fondly at the time we spent together on the "Night in Paradise.
The effervescent Karma Smith! Always smiling and a joy to be around is how she is described by her artist friends, family and fellow congregation at the Zion Lutheran Church where she was active for over 35 years. Karma’s watercolors were special too, with rich colors yet a delicate touch, they were always lovely to view.
