Mia is a jack of all trades and likes to experiment with many mediums. Mia has obtained her art degree from Belhaven University in Jackson, MS. is a published children’s book illustrator and a high school art educator for Ysleta ISD.
Mia states, My inspiration for black history is Kehinde Wiley's art style & Vanessa Simmons, founder of the Normalize Breastfeeding Movement.
In this piece called LOVE MILK, Mia states, “I make art from the heart. I am a huge breastfeeding advocate, and lover of all walks of life. I believe in the greater good of humanity and enjoy creating and making a mess. My dear friend Vanessa Simmons has taught me that in black culture many women of color are reclaiming their motherhood by normalizing breastfeeding. . . .
This piece, created with mixed media shows the beauty and bond of motherhood.
Black culture should be talked about everyday, not just in February.
